What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) allows you to conveniently view a number of information sources ( e.g. Jane's) in one place as soon as it is published, without having to visit the Jane's site. These RSS feeds are for subscribers only. The feeds available for each subscription service are listed on the left.

How do I start using Jane's RSS feeds?

Getting Started (pdf - 1Mb)

In general, the first thing you need is something called a RSS reader. This is a piece of software that checks the feeds and lets you read any publications and articles that have been added. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications. Some recent browsers ( e.g. I.E 7 and Firefox 3) even have RSS feeds detection built into them so that when you come across a RSS feed that you want to add, you simply follow the instructions in the browser.

Another way of adding the RSS feed is to simply select the feed you want on the left hand side, and then copy and paste the url of the RSS feed into your RSS reader.

Browser-based news readers let you catch up with your RSS feed subscriptions from any computer, whereas downloadable applications let you store them on your main computer, in the same way that you either download your e-mail using Outlook, or keep it on a web-based service like Hotmail.

There are many different RSS readers available, but here are a selected few that we tested our feeds with and that you may find useful:

FeedReader
FeedDemon
SharpReader

Once you have chosen a news reader, all you have to do is to decide what content you want it to receive. For example, if you would like the latest Jane's Defence Weekly stories, simply select the link to the left and follow the instructions on the page.
